Richmond, VA - Congratulations to Dystany Spurlock on completing her first Skip Barber Formula Race Series race! This is an impressive achievement and a significant step forward in her racing career.
The 8 race series kicked off at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and consisted of one day of practice and qualifying, followed by two consecutive days of racing.
After a weather delay in Monday's qualifying round, Dystany finally qualified 12th out of 16 cars. But unfortunately, the conditions were wet, and it didn't allow her to push her limits with the car or use the racing slicks.
On Tuesday's race day, Dystanys first few laps were her slowest pace as she was getting acclimated to the new tires and a new competition style. But she adjusted quickly, catching her stride on lap 5, moving from 12th to 9th before caution laps slowed the pace for the rest of race #1.
Wednesday's race, #2, showed much promise. Dystany started in the 9th position and gained a spot. She was becoming one with her car and the track. Unfortunately, during lap 9, the car got loose on turn 7, and she lost a position, falling back to 9th. She was closing the gap, but caution flags ended the race early. Nevertheless, she was able to shave over 2 seconds off her fastest lap time from the previous race.
"Today's race was phenomenal. I was able to learn a lot from Tuesday's race. I was more comfortable with the car and the track, which allowed me to try different things in today's race." Dystany continues, "Although we could only race 5 out of the 13 laps, I improved my fastest lap time by over 2 seconds. Im excited to continue learning and improve my times at the next race in NOLA Motorsports Park."
